Getting Started
Find your way around the web app
Learn how the web app is laid out — the sidebar, pages, panels, Settings and your account menu — and where to find help.
Using Do Everything on your phone? See Find your way around the mobile app.
The sidebar
The sidebar on the left is the main way to move around the web app:
- Create — Start a new task, note or list from any page.
- Today — One day at a time: the tasks planned, due or with a reminder that day, and the ones you've completed. Use the calendar strip to move to another day. This is also where you plan your day.
- Tasks — Browse all your tasks, with sorting, grouping and filtering options.
- Notes — View and search your notes.
- Lists — Create and manage lists to organise your tasks and notes into groups.
The sidebar also lists Journal, which is coming soon to the web app. For now, you write and read your reflections in the mobile app.
To give the page more room, collapse the sidebar to a rail of icons: select Toggle sidebar, which appears beside the Do Everything name when you point at the sidebar, or press ⌘B (Ctrl+B on Windows and Linux). Point at an icon in the rail to see its name, and select Toggle sidebar at the top of the rail to expand it again. Your browser remembers your choice. In a narrow window, the sidebar always stays a rail.
Pages
Each page has a button in the bottom-right corner for creating something there: New task on Today and Tasks, New note on Notes and New list on Lists. On a list's page, it adds a task or a note, depending on which tab of the list is open. The button shrinks to just the + as you scroll.
Panels
Select a task or a note to open it in a panel on the right. New tasks, notes and lists open in a panel too, and so do a list's name and settings when you choose Edit list in the list's menu.
Every task and note you open has its own address, so your browser's Back and Forward buttons step through what you've opened, and you can bookmark one or open it in another tab.
You can have two panels open at once — say, a task and a new note. When the window is wide enough, they sit beside the page. In a narrower window, they float over it instead: the panel underneath dims, and selecting Bring forward on it brings it to the front. Opening a third panel closes the one you opened first. Press Esc to close the panel you're in.
In a task or a list, your changes are kept when you save them: select Save, which appears as soon as you change something, or press ⌘↵ (Ctrl+Enter on Windows and Linux). If you close the panel before saving, Discard changes? asks whether to Discard them or Stay here. Notes save themselves as you write.
Your account menu
Select your name or picture at the bottom of the sidebar to open your account menu. It shows your name and email address, and has:
- Upgrade to PRO — On the free plan, see what PRO adds and choose a plan.
- Settings — Open Settings.
- Help centre — Open the help centre in a new tab.
- Log out — Log out of Do Everything in this browser.
Settings
To open Settings, select Settings in your account menu, or press G then S. Settings opens over the page, with its sections on the left:
- General — Choose the app's language, the day your weeks start on, and the lists new tasks and notes go to.
- Appearance — Choose Light, Dark or System, and your colours for light and dark mode. The Premium colour schemes need PRO.
- Notifications — Choose which notifications the mobile app sends to your phone. These settings don't change anything in the web app.
- Integrations — Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Do Everything. See Connect your AI assistant to Do Everything.
- About — Send us feedback or contact us, open the help centre, get the mobile app, and read the changelog, Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
- Account — See your plan, log out, or delete your account.
Getting help
The help button (?) at the top of Today, Tasks, Notes, Lists and each list's page opens the help article for that page in a panel on the right. Select it again to close the article, or select Open in a new tab to read it in its own tab. In a very narrow window, the article opens in a new tab straight away.
To browse the whole help centre, select Help centre in your account menu, in the command palette, or in Settings → About. It opens in a new tab.
Keyboard shortcuts
You can get around most of the web app from the keyboard. Press ? to see the shortcuts you can use, or ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) to open the command palette. For the full list, see Use keyboard shortcuts and the command palette.
