Write a daily reflection
Follow the guided four-step journalling flow to review your day, track your emotions, practise gratitude, and write a journal entry.
What is a daily reflection?
A daily reflection is a guided journal entry that helps you process your day in four steps: reviewing what you did, noting how you feel, expressing gratitude, and writing your thoughts. It takes just a few minutes and is designed to build a consistent journalling habit.
Starting a reflection
- Open the Today tab. To reflect on an earlier day, pick that day on the calendar strip first.
- Tap Reflect on your day. Before 6:00 PM, on a day that already has tasks, the button just reads Reflect. On a past day it reads Reflect on this day. If the day has no tasks, the same action appears as a card.
- Follow the four-step flow described below.
You can't start a reflection from the Journal tab. It lists the reflections you have already written.
The four steps
Step 1 — Review your tasks
You will see all your tasks for the selected day, grouped by status:
- "You completed 3 tasks today, well done 👏" — Tasks you finished.
- "Did you complete any of these?" — Tasks still to do that are planned for that day or due on it.
- "Tasks due today but scheduled for later" — Tasks due that day that you have planned to start on a later date.
A group only appears when it has tasks. On a past day, the headings drop "today" (for example, "Tasks due on this date but scheduled for later").
From here, you can mark tasks as done or reschedule open tasks for another day — a quick way to tie up loose ends before journalling.
Step 2 — How are you feeling?
Choose one of five feelings that best describes your day:
- Great
- Good
- Okay
- Not great
- Bad
After choosing a feeling, you can pick one or more moods that describe it in more detail. There are 47 moods in all, and the ones you see depend on the feeling you chose.
Step 3 — Practise gratitude
Write up to three things you are grateful for. The prompts adjust based on the feeling you selected — encouraging you to recognise positives regardless of how your day went.
Step 4 — Write your journal entry
Add a title (up to 70 characters) and write freely in the journal editor. You can use markdown formatting for structure and emphasis.
You can also:
- Attach images to capture moments from your day (free: 100 MB total, PRO: 250 MB per month).
- Add a location to remember where you were (PRO).
- Add tags to categorise the entry for future filtering.
When you are finished, tap Finish on the last step to complete your reflection. Earlier steps show Continue instead.
Auto-save
There is no Save button: we save your reflection automatically as you work through each step. If you leave and come back to that day's reflection, your answers will still be there, though the flow starts again from the first step. Empty reflections are not saved.
Browsing past reflections
Open the Journal tab to see all your reflections in chronological order. Each entry shows the date, title, feeling emoji, and a preview of the content.
You can:
- Search by title or content.
- Filter by feeling or by tag.
- Sort by Recently added, Recently updated or Title.
Viewing a reflection
Tap any reflection to see the full entry, including:
- Date and title.
- Tags.
- Attached images.
- Rendered markdown content.
- Your emotion (feeling and moods).
- Gratitude list.
- Location with a map (if set).
- Completed tasks for that day.
Reflection streaks
Each day you write a reflection counts towards your reflection streak, which helps you keep up a daily journalling habit. We record your streak, and a place to see it in the app is coming.
Evening reminder
The daily reflection reminder is off until you turn it on. While it is off, finishing a reflection may bring up a prompt: "Should we remind you in the evenings to continue the momentum?" Tap Yes, remind me and we'll send a notification at 8:00 PM every day to remind you to reflect on your day. Tap Not now and we won't ask again for three months. You can turn the reminder on or off at any time in Settings → Notifications settings → Daily reflection.
