Write a daily reflection
Follow the guided four-step journaling flow to review your day, track your emotions, practise gratitude, and write a journal entry.
What is a daily reflection?
A daily reflection is a guided journal entry that helps you process your day in four steps: reviewing what you did, noting how you feel, expressing gratitude, and writing your thoughts. It takes just a few minutes and is designed to build a consistent journaling habit.
Starting a reflection
- Open the Journal tab.
- Tap New reflection (or use the + button and choose Reflection).
- Follow the four-step flow described below.
The four steps
Step 1 — Review your tasks
You will see all your tasks for the selected day, grouped by status:
- Completed — Tasks you finished.
- Open — Tasks that are still to do.
- Future — Tasks scheduled for later.
From here, you can mark tasks as done or reschedule open tasks for another day — a quick way to tie up loose ends before journaling.
Step 2 — How are you feeling?
Choose one of five feelings that best describes your day:
- Great
- Good
- Okay
- Not great
- Bad
After choosing a feeling, you can pick one or more moods that describe it in more detail. There are over 50 moods to choose from, covering positive, neutral, and negative emotions.
Step 3 — Practise gratitude
Write up to three things you are grateful for. The prompts adjust based on the feeling you selected — encouraging you to recognise positives regardless of how your day went.
Step 4 — Write your journal entry
Add a title (up to 70 characters) and write freely in the journal editor. You can use markdown formatting for structure and emphasis.
You can also:
- Attach images to capture moments from your day (PRO).
- Add a location to remember where you were (PRO).
- Add tags to categorise the entry for future filtering (PRO).
When you are finished, tap Save to complete your reflection.
Auto-save
Your reflection is saved automatically as you work through each step. If you leave and come back, you will pick up where you left off. Empty reflections are not saved.
Browsing past reflections
Open the Journal tab to see all your reflections in chronological order. Each entry shows the date, title, feeling emoji, and a preview of the content.
You can:
- Search by title or content.
- Filter by feeling, emotion, or tags.
- Sort by creation date, last updated, or title.
Viewing a reflection
Tap any reflection to see the full entry, including:
- Date and title.
- Tags.
- Attached images.
- Rendered markdown content.
- Your emotion (feeling and moods).
- Gratitude list.
- Location with a map (if set).
- Completed tasks for that day.
Reflection streaks
Do Everything tracks how many consecutive days you write a reflection. Your current streak and longest streak are recorded, helping you maintain a daily journaling habit.
Evening reminder
By default, Do Everything sends a notification at 8:00 PM to remind you to reflect on your day. You can turn this off or snooze it for three months in Settings.
