Set up home screen widgets

Add Do Everything widgets to your home screen to see today's tasks and quickly create new items.

Available widgets

Do Everything offers three home screen widgets to help you stay on top of your day without opening the app:

  • Today — Shows your planned tasks for the day, grouped by time of day (All Day, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night). Tap a task to open it, or tap the checkbox to mark it complete. A + button in the header lets you create a new task. When you have no tasks planned, a motivational message is shown.
  • Quick Create Task — A shortcut button that opens the new task screen with one tap.
  • Quick Create Note — A shortcut button that opens the new note screen with one tap.

Adding widgets on iOS

  1. Long-press on your home screen until the apps start to jiggle.
  2. Tap the + button in the top-left corner.
  3. Search for Do Everything.
  4. Choose a widget and size. The Today widget supports small, medium, and large sizes.
  5. Tap Add Widget and position it on your home screen.

The small Today widget shows a compact task list. The medium size displays tasks in two columns, and the large size gives you a full scrollable list with more room for task titles.

Lock screen widgets on iOS

The Today widget also supports lock screen placements so you can glance at your tasks without unlocking your device:

  • Inline — Shows the number of remaining tasks (e.g. "3 tasks remaining").
  • Circular — A quick-create button that opens the new task screen when tapped.
  • Rectangular — Shows your task completion progress (e.g. "4/6 tasks complete").

To add a lock screen widget:

  1. Long-press on your lock screen.
  2. Tap Customise.
  3. Select the lock screen and tap the widget area.
  4. Find Do Everything and choose a lock screen widget.

Adding widgets on Android

  1. Long-press on your home screen.
  2. Tap Widgets.
  3. Find Do Everything in the list.
  4. Long-press a widget and drag it to your home screen.

On Android, the Quick Create Task and Quick Create Note widgets show a label alongside the icon when the widget is wide enough.

How widget data stays up to date

The Today widget refreshes periodically — roughly once an hour — to keep your task list current. Changes you make in the app, such as completing tasks or adding new ones, are synced to the widget automatically. Tapping anywhere on the Today widget opens the app at the Today screen so you can pick up where you left off.

Previewing widgets

You can preview all three widgets inside the app before adding them to your home screen. Open Settings and tap Widgets to see how each widget looks with your current tasks.
