Set up home screen widgets

Available widgets

Do Everything offers home screen widgets to help you stay on top of your day without opening the app. Android has all three below. iPhone and iPad have the Today widget:

• Today — Shows today's open tasks: the ones planned for today, due today or with a reminder today. They're grouped by time of day (Any time, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, Night), and only groups with tasks still to do are shown. Tap the circle next to a task to mark it complete. A + button in the header lets you create a new task. When you have nothing left to do today, a motivational message is shown.
• Create a new task (Android only) — A shortcut button that opens the new task screen with one tap.
• Create a new note (Android only) — A shortcut button that opens the new note screen with one tap.

Adding widgets on iOS

1. Long-press on your home screen until the apps start to jiggle.
2. Tap the + button in the top-left corner.
3. Search for Do Everything.
4. Swipe to choose a size for the Today widget: small, medium or large.
5. Tap Add Widget and position it on your home screen.

The small Today widget shows up to four lines of your open tasks. The medium size shows up to nine lines across two columns, and the large size gives you a single, wider column with bigger text and room for about ten lines. Time-of-day headings take a line each. Widgets don't scroll, so when there are more tasks than fit, you'll see a "…" at the bottom. Tap the widget to see the rest in the app.

Lock screen widgets on iOS

The Today widget also comes in lock screen sizes, so you can see how your day is going, or add a task, without unlocking your device:

• Inline — Shows the number of remaining tasks (e.g. "3 tasks remaining").
• Circular — A quick-create button that opens the new task screen when tapped.
• Rectangular — Shows your task completion progress (e.g. "4/6 tasks complete").

To add a lock screen widget:

1. Long-press on your lock screen.
2. Tap Customise.
3. Select the lock screen and tap the widget area.
4. Find Do Everything and choose a lock screen widget.

Adding widgets on Android

1. Long-press on your home screen.
2. Tap Widgets.
3. Find Do Everything in the list.
4. Long-press a widget and drag it to your home screen. The Today widget is listed as Tasks for today.

On Android, the Create a new task and Create a new note widgets show a "New task" or "New note" label next to the + when you make the widget wider.

How widget data stays up to date

On Android, the Today widget refreshes itself about every 30 minutes. On iPhone and iPad, it doesn't refresh by itself. On both, changes you make in the app, such as completing tasks or adding new ones, reach the widget the next time you open the Today screen, and ticking off a task on the widget updates it straight away.

On iPhone and iPad, tapping anywhere on the Today widget apart from a task's circle or the + button opens the app at the Today screen, so you can pick up where you left off. On Android, tap Today at the top of the widget to open the app.
