Tasks

Set due dates and reminders

Learn how to schedule your tasks with due dates and get reminded at exactly the right time.

Setting a due date

  1. Tap a task to open it.
  2. Tap the Due date field.
  3. Choose a date from the calendar, or pick one of the suggestions below it, such as Today, Tomorrow, an upcoming weekend day or Next Monday. Then tap Done.
  1. Tap Save at the top of the task to keep the change. If you go back without saving, we ask whether to discard your changes.

When browsing, tasks are grouped by date so you can quickly see what is coming up. By default each task sits under its scheduled date, or its due date if it isn't scheduled, or its reminder date if it has neither. To group by due date alone, choose Due date under Sort by.

  • Past — Before today, including overdue tasks.
  • Today — Anything dated today.
  • This week — Later this week.
  • Soon — Within the next seven days, but after this week.
  • Later — More than a week from now.
  • Someday — No scheduled date, due date or reminder. (When sorted by Due date, any task without a due date.)

Adding a reminder

Reminders send you a notification so you never miss a task. Each task can have one reminder.

  1. Tap a task to open it.
  2. Tap the Reminder field. A sheet opens asking "When do you want to be reminded?"
  3. Choose the type of reminder:
    • Absolute — Pick a specific date and time to be notified.
    • Relative — Tie the reminder to the task's due date (e.g. 1 day or 1 week before it) or its scheduled date, at a time you choose.
  1. Tap Done, then Save.

Quick time presets

Whichever date a reminder uses, you choose its time under Remind me at. Morning is selected for a new reminder, and you can pick from these presets:

  • Morning — 8:00 AM
  • Afternoon — 1:00 PM
  • Evening — 6:00 PM
  • Night — 9:00 PM

Or tap Pick a time, the first option in the row, to choose any time.

Snoozing a reminder

When a reminder notification appears, you can snooze it for later. On Android, tap Snooze on the notification first to see these options:

  • Remind me in an Hour — Reschedules the reminder to one hour from now.
  • Remind me in 3 Hours — Reschedules the reminder to three hours from now.
  • Remind me Tomorrow — Reschedules the reminder to 8:00 AM tomorrow.

Start dates

A start date is different from a due date — it marks when you plan to begin working on a task. In the app, you set it by adding the task to your schedule, and planning uses it to place the task in a time-of-day slot.

  1. Tap a task to open it.
  2. Tap Add to your schedule (once a task is scheduled, it shows Scheduled with a Reschedule button). Choose a day under On this date, then a time of day under During this time, such as Morning or Evening. Tap Done, then Save.

Relative reminders can be set against either the due date or the scheduled date, depending on which makes more sense for your workflow. A reminder on the due date can go off days, weeks or months before it; a reminder on the scheduled date goes off on that day. If you remove the date a reminder follows, the reminder is removed too.

Removing a due date or reminder

To remove a due date, tap the Due date field, tap Clear at the bottom of the calendar, then tap Save. This also removes a reminder set relative to the due date, and a schedule set to On due date. To remove a reminder, tap the Reminder field, tap Clear at the bottom of the sheet, then tap Save.
