Search and filter notes

Searching notes

Use the search bar at the top of the Notes tab to find notes by title or content. Search is case-insensitive and updates in real time as you type.

Filtering notes

Filters narrow down your notes view to show only what you are looking for.

1. Tap the filter icon at the right-hand end of the search bar on the Notes tab. A sheet opens with Sort by and Filter by sections.
2. Under Filter by, tap Filter by list or Filter by tag. A second sheet opens. You can use one filter or both:
   • Filter by list — Show only notes belonging to the lists you pick.
   • Filter by tag — Show only notes that have any of the tags you pick. If you also filter by list, a note has to match both.
3. Tap the lists or tags you want. Your choices apply straight away, and each active filter shows as a chip under the search bar. Tap Done to close the sheet.

To clear a filter, tap its chip under the search bar, then tap Clear in the sheet that opens. You can also tap selected items to deselect them. List and tag filters each have their own chip and clear separately.

Sorting notes

You can change the order in which notes are displayed.

1. Tap the filter icon at the right-hand end of the search bar. Sort options are under Sort by, in the same sheet as the filters.
2. Choose a sort option:
   • Recently updated — Most recently edited notes first. This is the default.
   • Recently created — Newest notes first.
   • Title — Alphabetical order.

If you choose anything other than Recently updated, a Created or Title chip appears under the search bar. Tap it to change the sort.

Viewing active and archived notes

When you have archived notes, two filter chips, Active and Archived, appear in the chip row under the search bar.

• Active — Shows your current notes (default).
• Archived — Shows notes you have archived.

These chips only appear when at least one archived note matches your current search and filters. Archived notes in an archived list, or in a list with Show notes on the Notes tab switched off, don't count. If no archived note matches while you are on Archived, the view switches back to Active.

How notes are displayed

Notes are shown in a visual masonry grid: two columns on phones, and three or four on larger screens. Each note card includes:

• A thumbnail of the first image (if one is attached).
• The note title (or "Untitled note" if none is set).
• A three-line preview of the content.
• Location address (if set).
• Tag chips for any tags applied to the note.

The grid layout makes it easy to scan your notes visually and find what you need at a glance.
